WHAT WE LOVE...

This carefully renovated 15th-century coaching inn is now a restaurant-with-rooms in the National-Trust owned village of Lacock. It is an attractive mix of wooden beams, casement windows and flagstones, with five bedrooms plus a residents' lounge upstairs and the space downstairs - beside huge stone fireplaces - devoted to dining. The bedrooms are full of character and the restaurant has 2 AA rosettes and presents well-executed, creative dishes with finely-tuned flavours.

THE DETAILS

Location

We love wandering Lacock's atmospheric streets which have been the backdrop for a number of films. Staying here is like stepping back in time.

By car: around 40 minutes from Bristol or Bath, 2 hours 30 minutes from London and 4 hours from Leeds. There is free parking nearby.
By train: trains to Chippenham run from Bath (11 minutes), Bristol (24 minutes) and London (1 hour 7 minutes). From Chippenham station, the hotel is a 10-minute taxi ride away. thetrainline.com

Style & Character

This restaurant-with-rooms appeals to people who love old buildings or those looking for somewhere for an intimate, romantic or celebratory dinner. We love the faithful restoration - floors creak and slope and inglenook fireplaces dominate rooms.

Service & Facilities

We love the cosy, wood-panelled residents' lounge upstairs, a charming place to relax with a coffee or an after-dinner tipple. The main draw is the restaurant, and we love its minimal aesthetic; the inn's old walls and fireplaces speak for themselves. Dogs are welcome at the cost of £15 extra, which goes towards cleaning.
