Hotel Review
Timbrell’s Yard, Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire
Decorated in a rustic-industrial style, Timbrell's Yard makes a fantastic base for exploring Bradford-on-Avon, the river and the Kennet and Avon canal on foot. It's also within easy driving distance of Bath. The boutique property will appeal to travellers wanting a break close to the Wiltshire countryside but within walking distance of historic buildings, shops and restaurants. The rooms are a good size but, as the restaurant is the main focus, don't expect all the services of a hotel. High standards of food and drink are set by a former River Cottage head chef.
THE DETAILS
Location
We love Barton Farm Country Park, with its handsome medieval Tithe Barn. Pop inside on a stroll between the river and canal.
Timbrell's Yard is beside the River Avon in the centre of town, with plenty of cafés and pubs nearby, as well as the independent shops along The Shambles.
By car: the hotel is 45 mins from Bristol, 1 hour 30 mins from Oxford and 2 hours 30 mins from London. Free parking is available nearby.
By train: London Paddington to Bradford-on-Avon (via Westbury or Bath Spa) takes around 1 hour 50 mins. The hotel is a 3-minute walk from the station. thetrainline.com
Style & Character
The hotel suits travellers who prefer contemporary lodgings to a country house hotel and want a base in a vibrant town centre. We love the views from the front of the property of the town's buttery historic buildings, tumbling down the hill to meet the river.
Service & Facilities
The waiting staff have a great attitude - plenty of personality while still being friendly and unflappable. Dogs are welcome in all bedrooms, as well as the bar, where the full menu is available. They are given boxes of treats, can visit a nearby dog cafe and are spoilt for walks.

Food & Drink
The roasts on a Sunday are great value and feature a sublime celeriac mash, a good vegan option and a mixed meat dish for those who can't decide. Our favourite dish is a melt-in-the-mouth beef scrumpet, which came with piquant ginger and soy, plus a rich pumpkin satay puree.
The restaurant: modern British cooking, West Country produce, snacks, ciabatta sandwiches. Open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains from £13.75.
