Hotel Review
Fleur Noire Hotel, Palm Springs, USA
This hotel is eye-catching before you even get in through the main gate; a series of low-level bungalows, coloured jet black (the 'noire' part), and painted with huge, colourful blooms (the 'fleur'). Originally dating from the 1940s, it started life as a family-run hotel, then became self-contained apartments in the 1970s. Recently they were taken over and transformed by friends Corey St John and Chris Pardo, who had a vision for a stylish, boutique property with a dose of French flair. Twenty one casitas sit around a central, landscaped, desert garden area with a pool, which also features several firepits. French music is played subtly throughout, and there's a bar called La Boisson which specialises in rosé wine and champagne. A clubhouse for co-working offers free hot and cold drinks and snacks. It's at the northern end of Palm Springs, within easy reach of hiking trails, but not too far from downtown, where most of the bars and restaurants are.

Most casitas are one-bedroomed, but if you need more space, four casitas have two beds. We're in love with the rooms' quirky touches, such as the golden lamps in the shape of flamingos in the living room.

Food & Drink
The vibe is relaxed; you can cook in your own casita, or eat out. Located right next door is a separate restaurant, Sandfish, which specialises in sushi; the signature Sandfish roll mixes spicy tuna, crab meat and avocado, topped with crispy potato, along with teriyaki sauce and spicy aioli.
Sandfish: authentic sushi, fine whiskies. Open daily for dinner.
La Boisson: speakeasy-style bar.
