Hotel Review
Royal Garden Villas & Spa, Costa Adeje, Tenerife
There is a surprising playfulness about this Tenerife hotel - one that takes its five stars seriously. You check in after crossing a wooden bridge over a river followed by a glass covered connection of shells. There are statues of frogs having fun all around in what looks like one long mating season. Some hotels you appreciate while you're on holiday, but you could happily stay at Royal Garden Villas all year round - especially with the extra sunshine hours from the island's sub-tropical climate. This is accommodation fit for a king, queen, prince and princess.

Style & Character
A fair chunk of Royal Garden Villas & Spa guests are British and it's ideal for younger couples, families, and older duos too. Its egg chairs are so inviting, the perfect place to while away an afternoon reading a book from the hotel's library.
Service & Facilities
Talking to staff is a genuine pleasure and feels like a comfortable two-way conversation rather than a forced one-way one. At breakfast, general manager Fiona McAndrew leads a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday to an octogenarian golfer guest.

Food & Drink
We love the Pool Bar's one-litre Cava Sangria, made from Spain's version of champagne, plus orange and lemon juice, Cointreau, and fruit. Restaurante Jardín's gnocchi starter uses Tenerife's celebrated black potatoes, imaginatively pairing them with a creamy scorpion fish sauce.
Jardin: imaginative Canarian cuisine, classic European dishes, seafood. Open daily for dinner. Mains from €24.
Tucán Tucán: beers, wine list, cocktails, premium spirits, coffees.
Pool Bar: drinks, sandwiches, snacks, all-day dining. Mains from €14.
