Hotel Review
Nutfield Priory, Nutfield, Surrey
This neo-Gothic country house hotel offers grandeur and wonderful views over the Surrey Downs. Spectacular stained glass windows, a charming minstrel's gallery and an 1874 organ adorn the magnificent Grand Hall. Elsewhere, it's all medieval archways, carved panelling, exquisite paintings, sparkling chandeliers and a replica 'Big Ben' tower (the house was modelled on the Palace of Westminster). The charming library walks you through the house's history with pupils' diaries from its days as a boarding school and removable wooden panels used to store guns when the building was commissioned during World War II. There's a luxury spa and health club and two AA rosette fine dining for guests looking for relaxation, and wellies and walking maps for lovers of the outdoors.
