Hotel Neri, Barcelona, Spain
Located in the characterful Gothic Quarter near numerous sights, cafés, bars and restaurants, part of this lovely 22-room hotel was originally a 12th-century palace, with other parts originally an 18th-century townhouse. Although it lacks facilities like a spa or gym, it easily makes up for this in its location, historic architecture, stylish interior design and highly-rated restaurant featuring inventive Catalonian and Mediterranean cuisine. It has a charming rooftop garden with a bar area and pool, and an inviting terrace flowing from the restaurant and bar on the ground floor onto one of the prettiest squares in the neighbourhood. Some of the slick guest rooms have balconies, ideal for watching the world go by, and spacious natural stone bathrooms.
