WHAT WE LOVE...

Set on a hillside a short walk from the centre of Bath, this large hotel offers a peaceful location, tucked away in delightful seven-acre grounds where you'll feel a world away from the bustling city centre, which lies a 15-minute walk southwest. The pleasant gardens are shaded by towering trees including a 250-year-old cedar of Lebanon; you'll also find a 19th century tufa grotto and temple, and two beehives home to 100,000 British bees. The hotel (a former private residence, then boys' school, and subsequently home for nursing staff) is housed in a delightful Georgian mansion with high ceilings and large windows. Interiors feel a little tired and could do with a heavy dose of TLC, however the spa is the main draw, complete with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, sauna, steam room, ice room and salt room.
