WHAT WE LOVE...

Time seems to stand still at Inverlochy in the best possible way. Unashamedly unchanged through the years (why mess with near perfection?), this is the classic country house hotel - comfortably grand, respectfully intimate, surrounded by spectacular scenery. From it's fairytale turrets and crenellations and the Jacobite Rose wallpaper in the Great Hall - with its deep armchairs arranged just so in front of a blazing fire - to the lavishly decorated, deeply traditional bedrooms, this is the equivalent of being invited to a Victorian house party, but with better plumbing and cooking by the Roux family. It's the perfect place to come home to after a day's exploring if you're a lover of life's quieter, classier pleasures.

THE DETAILS

Location

We enjoy taking the Corran ferry across the loch to the Ardnamurachan peninsula and driving to the lighthouse at the end of the world.

The hotel is in the village of Inverlochy, at the foot of Ben Nevis and popular with walkers. Fort William is a few miles to the south.
By car: around 3 hours 30 minutes from Edinburgh, 7 hours from Sheffield and 10 hours from London. There is free parking on site.
By train: Direct trains run to Spean Bridge station from Glasgow Queen Street (3 hours 30 minutes) and London Euston (12 hours 30 minutes). Spean Bridge station is a 15-minute taxi ride from the hotel. thetrainline.com

Style & Character

This hotel is for anyone who cares less about fashion but rather appreciates things done very, very well. We love drinking a glass of champagne in a roll-top bath, gazing at the view.

Service & Facilities

The staff really go the extra mile - if you come out of the hotel on a frosty morning and you'll find your car windows de-iced and your muddy boots cleaned.

Food & Drink

Watching the sun set over Loch Eil, before tucking into an extravagant afternoon tea is a fabulous experience. Our favourite dish is the peat-smoked haddock with hollandaise sauce and poached eggs for breakfast.
