WHAT WE LOVE...

Tucked away down a narrow country road in mid-Northumberland, and surrounded by woodland, this Georgian gem of a country house feels very private. Yet it's close to the A1 which means the county's must-sees and lovely coast are easily reached. With classic Georgian features and soft colours, public rooms are elegant and nicely on the cosy side so they feel inviting rather than formal. Bedrooms, by contrast, are rather grand with antiques, sweeping curtains and vast bathrooms. Those in the separate lodge and stables are smaller but equally luxuriously furnished. Dinner, too, is an elegant though intimate affair with well-crafted dishes. While there's plenty to explore in Northumberland, you could equally well spend your time relaxing in the lounges or wandering the grounds spotting the wildlife.
