WHAT WE LOVE...

In arguably Northumberland's most attractive seaside village, Alnmouth, this dog-friendly restaurant-with-rooms is five minutes from the beach and offers sea views from many of its bedrooms. The Victorian villa and adjoining cottage have been smartly furnished in a modern rustic style with wood-burning stoves and lots of jolly references to the coastal location, whether in framed prints, advertising posters or the rich blue and sandy colour schemes. Food is king here - the entire ground floor is a series of eating areas - with a bistro-style menu that highlights local fish, beef and game. The ten comfortable but uncluttered bedrooms are smart with wool-upholstered armchairs, Farrow and Ball colours, waxed rustic furniture and smart touches such as coffee machines, bathrobes and homemade shortbread.

Style & Character

Walkers, dog owners and coastal lovers who want a seaside hotel with a bit of style and good comfort will enjoy this place. The references to the sea - a fishing rod, hurricane lamp, wallpaper of seagulls and framed prints of shellfish - are subtly done without going overboard with clutter.

Service & Facilities

We loved coming back from a breezy walk along the sands to a refreshing cuppa by the wood-burning stove in the bar. Dogs are welcome in several rooms and are given a bed, bowl and Whittling House dog-treat. Pets can accompany their owners in the dog-friendly area of the restaurant.
