Hotel Review
W Amsterdam, Netherlands
Just a stone's throw from the Royal Palace and Dam Square, this hotel, unusually, is housed in two distinctly different buildings in the centre of Amsterdam. One is named Exchange - a telephone exchange building dating from the 1920s - and the other, Bank - a former bank dating from 1906 which is situated across the road. Each have their own design hallmarks and oodles of space - both in public areas and many of the 238 guest rooms. Between them, they offer top restaurants, buzzing bar areas, a stylish lounge, a modern spa, fitness room and both a rooftop and indoor pool. There are numerous nods to Dutch culture and design. However, the open plan nature of many bathrooms won't be to everyone's taste.

The hotel attracts a wide range of visitors but mostly a younger, design-conscious crowd enjoying the copious use of music and buzzing ambience. We loved the swish rooftop bar.

Swimming lengths in the rooftop pool is certainly a step above a trip to the municipal baths.
