WHAT WE LOVE...

Slip inside this five-star hotel on Manchester's grand King Street for an opulent, grown-up break filled with theatrical touches. Its striking Art Deco building, known as the "King of King Street", was formerly a branch of the Midland Bank and this banking history has been used as a theme throughout, with managers dressed in pinstripe suits and toiletries in rooms on gold bars. The 60 rooms are places to relax, with luxurious, tactile fabrics and marble bathrooms, while a visit to its private members' club on the seventh floor is a must to look out over Manchester from outdoor terraces.

THE DETAILS

Location

Huge windows in the rooms and roof terraces of the hotel's private members' club have fabulous views of one of Manchester's finest streets.

The hotel is on King Street, right in the city centre, with the Northern Quarter's bars and restaurants a short walk away.
By car: around 1 hour 20 mins from Leeds, 2 hours from Birmingham and 4 hours 30 mins from London. There is private parking available at £35 per day.
By train: There are regular trains to Manchester Piccadilly from Birmingham New Street (1 hour 30 minutes) and London Euston (2 hours 10 minutes) as well as most other major cities. Manchester Piccadilly station is a five-minute taxi or 15-minute walk from the hotel. thetrainline.com

Style & Character

Couples on a fun-filled romantic mini-break can cosy up in luxurious rooms after sipping cocktails on Club Brass's terraces. The building and its original features are special. Take the stairs to admire its brass banister and terrazzo flooring.

Service & Facilities

Staff in Club Brass take mixing the perfect cocktail seriously, so ask them to recommend the best drink for you based on your taste.

Rooms

We love the two large Bank Manager's Suites, which have rolltop tubs inside the bedrooms. Inner Sanctum Suites have leather walls and a huge "wonderwall" screen projecting the Manchester skyline instead of windows - but might not be to everyone's taste. Book the hotel's Martini trolley to come to your room and have the perfect drink mixed for you there.

Food & Drink

Request a table by one of the arched windows in Honey to peer out over the city rooftops while you eat. Breakfast, served in the Honey restaurant, is a small, but high-quality, selection of continental options as well as hot dishes cooked to order.

Honey Resaturant: 2 AA Rosettes. Formal fine dining, modern British cuisine. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains from £18.
Club Brass: private members' club, views of the city skyline, cocktails and specialist spirits. Cocktails from £12.
