WHAT WE LOVE...

Standing proudly at the foot of Northumberland Avenue, in a stunning position overlooking the River Thames and almost directly opposite the London Eye, the Corinthia is one of the best located hotels in the capital. Classical and stately on the outside - it used to be the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence - but sleek and stylish on the inside, this is a grand hotel for the 21st century. It's been featured in countless films and is the go-to choice for many stars of screen and stage who choose it for its central but discreet location, away from the paparazzi in the West End. Top class restaurants (one with a celebrity chef) and possibly the best spa in the country make it the ideal choice for discerning weekenders too.

THE DETAILS

Location

We love only having to cross the road from the Corinthia's front door to take a seat in the Playhouse Theatre, which regularly stages some of the best drama in the UK.

The Corinthia is in the heart of London close to the National Portrait Gallery, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and the Institute of Contemporary Art as well as all the shops.
By car: the hotel is 4 hours from Manchester, 2 hours 30 mins from Birmingham and 7 hours from Glasgow. There is paid parking nearby.
By train: London Charing Cross and London Waterloo are both within walking distance of the hotel. London Paddington, Kings Cross and Euston stations are all around 15 minutes' from the hotel in a taxi. thetrainline.com

Style & Character

Anybody, whether staying for leisure or business, who loves good design and wants the best that British hospitality can offer in a wonderfully convenient location will like it here. Ascending the grand-looking front steps into the palatial lobby area, your eyes are irresistibly drawn to the stunning Baccarat chandelier, with its 1,001 crystals sparkling overhead in the Crystal Moon Lounge.

Rooms

The 'Executive Room' is more like a suite, featuring a massive walk-in wardrobe with plenty of space to try on clothes in front of the floor-to-ceiling mirrors. We love the roomy marble bathrooms too, with a built-in TV at the foot of the bath and high-end ESPA toiletries.

Food & Drink

The new plant-based menu in The Northall - offering dishes such as kohlrabi ravioli with creamed avocado and hazelnut - is tempting enough to even woo carnivores away from the delicious Josper grilled steaks. A lunch of lobster tagliatelle made using hand-rolled pasta and the tenderest grilled lobster hits the spot too.

Kerridge's: Tom Kerridge-run, inventive takes on British classics, bar menu. Open every day for lunch and dinner. Mains from £26.50.
