WHAT WE LOVE...

Blackfriars Road can be a pretty bleak stretch at the best of times but the relatively recent arrival of the latest in the super-cool Hoxton group of hotels in London has brightened it up just a little bit, with its long terrace of outside tables and the signature Hox lobby filled with cool dudes chewing the fat or tapping away on laptops. What was always a fairly funky and creative part of London now has its ground zero for all sorts of like-minded people, and very comfortable it is too - home to an almost 200-room hotel, several floors of co-working space and enough bars and restaurants to make the wheels go round. It's a pretty good location for seeing the capital, too!

THE DETAILS

Location

It's nice to stay in a proper, non-glitzy neighbourhood while still being very central and super-well-connected to the rest of central London.

Situated close to the River Thames and the Southbank's restaurants and galleries; the stalls of Borough Market are a 15-minute walk away.
By car: the hotel is 4.5 hours from Manchester and less than 3 hours from Bristol. Public parking costs £30 per day.
By train: Southwark tube station is 2 minutes' walk away; London Bridge and Waterloo are a 5-minute taxi ride. thetrainline.com

The hotel suits travellers and business-people searching for a touch of style but nothing too pretentious. Some of the streets nearby have untouched rows of Victorian houses and authentic local pubs, lending a chilled, non-urban feel despite having much of central London at your feet.

It's a genuinely friendly hotel with charming relaxed service throughout - attentive, but without standing on ceremony. Dog-friendly throughout, apart from the restaurants.
