WHAT WE LOVE...

Utterly unassuming from the outside but dripping with old world elegance throughout its interior, The Rookery is a cracking central London stay. Sitting within an 18th-century town house on Peter's Lane, just a short walk from Farringdon station, it feels more like a home from home than a faceless hotel. There are cosy lounges and libraries for guests to gather in and relax, welcoming staff on the front desk who will show you around and offer tips on where to eat, drink or shop nearby, and its quirky bedrooms - of which no two are the same - are packed with antiques and hand-crafted furniture. The hotel might not have all the facilities of central London's big chains, but it's a lovely, low-key alternative with endless charms.

Food & Drink

The Rookery doesn't have a traditional restaurant or bar, but the array of local spirits from London's creative distillers available in the honesty bar made for an interesting evening's drinking. The smoked salmon bagel from the famous Beigel Bake shop on Brick Lane nearby was a great touch at breakfast.

Breakfast room: breakfast is served daily in the conservatory, or can be delivered in-room. Options include pastries, granola, bacon sandwiches and smoked salmon bagels.
