WHAT WE LOVE...
The only hotel in London with a Royal Warrant for hospitality services, the five-star Goring Hotel has been in the same family since it opened in 1910 and is a favourite of the Royal family (the Queen is rumoured to host her annual Christmas lunch here and Kate Middleton stayed in the Royal Suite the night before her wedding). With only 69 luxurious suites and rooms, The Goring is affectionately known as a "Baby Grand" and often referred to as "London's country house hotel" - all the charm and tranquillity of a countryside hotel and its gardens, in the midst of the city (the garden is larger than the centre court at Wimbledon and is the largest hotel garden in London).

As the closest hotel to Buckingham Palace, every reigning monarch and serving Prime Minister has been welcomed into the hotel since it opened.
Bordering Victoria and Westminster, the hotel is minutes from Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park.
By car: the hotel is 4 hours from Manchester, and less than 2.5 hours from Bristol. Parking costs £60 per day.

Style & Character
Caricatures of the Goring family have been painted into the wallpaper: a monkey on horseback in full racing silks references George Goring's love of riding and sports, while a sleek seal is a nod to Jeremy Goring's love of surfing.

Rooms
The Royal Suite was chosen by Kate Middleton as the place to stay the night before she got married to Prince William in 2011. It takes over the whole top floor of the hotel with windows looking over the garden. If you book into a suite you get an in-suite cocktail hour served by liveried footmen.

The Dining Room remains one of the last London restaurants to serve roast rib of beef that's carved from a silver trolley. The Goring lobster omelette is rich and indulgent, and comes with crisp triple-cooked chips and a palate-cleansing salad.
