Despite what Michael Palin might have to say, there's little grotty about Lanzarote. Still, Puerto del Carmen, the main resort, was the epicentre of the bucket-and-spade brigade. Then came gentrification in the form of Kumar Dadlani's Lani's Suites De Luxe. Dadlani set off on a three-year round-the-world yacht trip to find a second home, only to return to Lanzarote to promote it as the "white pearl of the Atlantic". His first plan was to convert apartments designed by the legendary artist and architect César Manrique into a shopping centre, before switching focus to creating an adults-only hotel. Mr. Dadlani would later add a centro comercíal complete with rooftop bar and sushi restaurant opposite.
The hotel's exclusive feel shows the Canary Islands can be as upmarket as the Caribbean in terms of island getaways.
The hotel is beside the main strip at Puerto del Carmen, and a short drive from Playa Blanca.
