WHAT WE LOVE...

The five-star Arrecife Gran Hotel & SPA is a complete one-off. There's nowhere else like it on the island - it's the only skyscraper on Lanzarote. Fresh from his travels to New York in the 1960s, local architect/artist César Manrique had become a fan of the Big Apple look. But after seeing the rushed development of resorts on other Canary Islands, Manrique urged Lanzarote's authorities to put the brakes on any more lofty projects. So the AGH remains one of a kind, dominating the landscape of the island capital. Without it, Arrecife would feel more provincial and less of a reference point. Given the hotel's popularity with A-list celebrities, suites have been designed with bodyguards in mind.

Style & Character

Culture loving visitors will like that the hotel embraces modern art, and enjoy having some of the city's galleries nearby. Rufina Santana's lobby mural, which celebrates the reef (called Arrecife in Spanish) as a source of colour and life is jaw-dropping.

The adults-only Aquaplus Spa's hydrothermal circuit includes a sauna and Turkish bath. We love the 'Sweet Dreams' massages with lavender aromatherapy - priced at 39€ for 25 minutes and €69 for 50 minutes.
