Hotel Review
Raise View, Grasmere, Lake District
This stylish, adults-only B&B, with classy hotel-grade standards, reflects owner Jacky Godfrey's warmth, eye for design and passionate attention to detail. The five bedrooms, spread over the second and third floors, have top-quality furnishings, including striking feature wallpapers, smart armchairs and modern bathrooms. And there's plenty of space, with both a dining room and sitting room, the latter with honesty bar, local books and walking guides; lots of inspiration for those fell-walks you've promised to do! We also found it a nice place to relax over a night cap after returning from dinner. The B&B is a 10- to 15-minute walk from pubs and restaurants, so it's a place for a quiet weekend rather than late nights out. Breakfast is cooked to order by Jacky, who can also help plan a day out with her great knowledge of local tried-and-tested walks and hikes.

Rooms
The views of the fells are a delight to wake up to - and definitely made us leap out of bed. Silver How is worth the extra money for the space, fell views - from the bed, too - and the spacious, walk-in shower bathroom.

Food & Drink
The full pot of decent coffee encouraged us to linger over breakfast longer than we intended. For evening meals, Grasmere has several good places within walking distance; check out The Jumble Room and The Yan.
