Hotel Review
JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa, Venice, Italy
A resort hotel on a private island in the Venetian lagoon, a 20-minute speed across the water in a courtesy transfer from St Mark's Square. Occupying 40 acres of the Isola delle Rose island, the hotel is a sprawling resort with five different buildings. The island was a convalescing infirmary for patients with pulmonary disorders from 1914 until 1980 and the grounds are packed with historical plants considered beneficial to health (including olive trees that are used to make the hotel's own olive oil). The main hotel still has the whiff of the sanitorium about it with four storeys of rooms along straight wide corridors. However the smaller outbuildings containing private suites and villas are more characterful. Enjoy fine dining, fully-serviced spa and a rooftop pool with views across to Venice.
