WHAT WE LOVE...
This palatial hotel was built with investment by Cesar Ritz, and opened in 1894 as the Grand Hotel Rome. It was the first hotel in Italy to have electric lighting and private bathrooms and a grand ballroom, decorated with frescoes by Mario Spinetti. Completely restored in 2018, the St Regis remains the smartest address in town. Enjoy the spectacular pizazz of the Lumen cocktail bar and restaurant with a combination of chandeliers and central glass atrium flooding the lounge with light. Rooms have Acqua di Parma toiletries and bespoke coffee machines and some look out on the fountain of Piazza della Republicca. Take a ride in the classic Fiat courtesy car to feel like you're in a Fellini film (he stayed many times at the hotel).

Caravaggio's famous painting Judith Beheading Holofernes is among the artworks in Palazzo Barberini just up the road.
Rome's iconic colloseum is around 20 minutes away on foot.

Watch out for the successful and the famous who arrive at the hotel sporting haute couture. The hotel's original 19th-century elevator is one of the oldest in Rome.
