WHAT WE LOVE...

The Riomar was the very first hotel to open in the small, quiet beach town of Santa Eulalia, back in 1968. Now owned by Marriott, the recent renovation has been sympathetically and stylishly done. The light, airy reception area, which leads into a lounge and bar, features lots of blond wood, stone-coloured tables, and calming tones of terracotta, brown, beige and sand. There are big wooden pillars hung with geometric lighting, modular sofas, and a hand-painted mural on the back wall. There are lots of curves and arches, softening the feel, and an expansive terrace restaurant, Ocean Brasserie, leads on to a decent sized pool. The hotel's USP, however, is that it sits right by the sand, with a selection of sunloungers for guests to use.
