Hotel Review
SO/ Berlin Das Stue, Berlin, Germany
Das Stue means 'living room' in Danish, a fitting title for this homely and luxurious hotel bordering the Tiergarten. Formerly the Royal Danish Embassy, the austere 1938 building has been zestfully styled by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola with a nod to the adjacent Berlin Zoo - to which guests have use of an exclusive entrance. Now part of Sofitel's fashion-led SO brand, the boutique property attracts leisure travellers who appreciate its unique story and the chance to relax in arty, well-appointed rooms with a verdant view. A swish bar and creative restaurant are complemented by a discreet Spa by Susanne Kaufmann with an indoor pool. In a city that's famously full-on, here's one hotel where you can truly relax.

Food & Drink
The à la carte breakfast menu lets you cherry-pick exactly what you fancy, from some healthy chia pudding with raspberry to an indulgent eggs royale. At dinner, we loved the starter of confit lobster with turnip followed by two kinds of German lamb with pine nuts and olive gnocchi.
The Casual: main restaurant, Mediterranean cuisine. All-day menu, open daily. Lunch set menu from €21.
