WHAT WE LOVE...

Opened in 2019, this imposing property from the zestful German brand 25hours Hotels rises up beside the equally grand Gare du Nord railway station. While some guests check in to be close to this transport hub, the four-star, 237 room hotel has its own appeal thanks to a striking design that takes its cue from the surrounding multicultural neighbourhood. A companion book, Portraits of the Gare du Nord, explains how its murals, fabrics, artworks and curiosities owe everything to this vibrant mix-up of African, South Asian, East Asian and French heritage. Add in cheerful staff, the superb eastern-Mediterranean cuisine of NENI restaurant and a bar celebrating Congolese sapeurs (dandies), and you have one of the most individual and engaging stays in Paris.

Food & Drink

The Sape Bar draws inspiration from the music and snappy dressing of Congolese sapeurs (dandies) with a DJ from Thursday to Saturday. We loved the Moroccan harira soup followed by brochette de boeuf with freekeh (roasted wheat) and herbs, plus a warming glass of red wine from Languedoc.

NENI: Balagan restaurant, sharing plates. Arabic, Persian and French cuisine. Open daily, 7am-11pm. Sunday brunch served 12-3pm.
Sape Bar: elegant bar, cosy leather armchairs. Serving cocktails, wines and spirits. Open Mon-Sat, 5pm-1am.
