WHAT WE LOVE...

This modernist building in the central shopping district was originally a department store, designed by Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen and opened in 1928. Three-quarters of a century later, discount shoppers gave way to well-heeled guests, as the building was transformed into an upscale design hotel. There's an instant wow factor as the escalator from street level delivers you into a vast atrium lobby, flooded with light from a wall of glass on the far side. Rooms, too, are decidedly handsome, especially since a recent revamp injected new warmth and glamour. There's a relaxed vibe in the restaurant and bar if you fancy hanging out there, but it's just as handy for exploring - with sightseeing, shopping and entertainment options all within easy walking distance.

THE DETAILS

Food & Drink

In summer, the courtyard is a lovely place to eat out, with an al fresco kitchen cooking sourdough pizzas in a wood-fired oven. The Petri kitchen turns out a very fine burger and the bartenders know how to mix up a decent cocktail.

Petri Restaurant & Bar: bistro, serving modern cuisine and wine pairings. Main dishes include Danish rib-eye, moules frites and pizzas. Open daily from 12pm.
Breakfast: buffet breakfast, with cooked to order options available. Served daily 6:30-10am (7-11am at weekends).
