WHAT WE LOVE...

A compact boutique hotel on the outskirts of St Helier with a dynamic bar and a well-respected restaurant that serves Madeiran hanging skewers called espetada. Rooms vary in character and colour from monochrome black and white to racy red velvet. Facilities are limited but there is a small car park across the road and a bus runs regularly into town (a brisk 10-minute walk away) or into the country parishes of St John and Trinity where you can pick up the north coast cliff paths. Unusually for a three-star hotel you'll find robes in all the rooms save for the lowest category, along with a snack tray of goodies, air conditioning and bluetooth speakers.

If you catch the bus from the hotel in the direction out of town, you can go as far as the cliff paths on the north coast.

The hotel is on the outskirts of Jersey's capital, a short bus ride (or a brisk 10-minute walk) from the town's shops and restaurants.

There is a great selection of dishes for vegans, including tenderstem broccoli in batter with crushed minted peas, hand-cut chips and vegan caper butter. The garlic lover's starter in the restaurant involves a whole bulb of roasted garlic with Gournay cheese, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and oven baked bread.

The restaurant: modern European and classic British dishes, steaks, burgers, salads, vegetarian and vegan options. Open Wed-Sat for dinner, Sun for lunch. Mains from £12.50.
