Hotel Review
Rocco Forte Hotel Amigo, Brussels, Belgium
With a guestlist of the great and good, celebrities and heads of state, Rocco Forte Hotel Amigo is in the world's premier league. As it's adjacent to the city's Grand Place, it also holds court over Brussels. Styled by Olga Polizzi, of the Forte family, it has her signature elegantly classy design with subtle Belgian touches including original art and Flemish tapestries. Bedrooms are sleek and generous - suites palatial - with all the luxurious touches you'd expect, including the occasional antique, and Carrara marble bathrooms. There's a fashionable cocktail bar, with regular live jazz, and a snazzy Italian restaurant. Throughout service is flawless with concierges who have one of the city's best contacts books.
THE DETAILS
Location
The Grand Place can be hectic during the day, but much quieter at night; it was easy to slip out from the hotel in the evening and enjoy its beauty, magically illuminated.
Brussels' famous Upper Town, with the cathedral, museums and galleries, is around 10 minutes' walk away.
By plane: there are direct flights from London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and Birmingham. The hotel is a 25-minute drive from the airport.
By train: the Eurostar goes direct from London St Pancras to Brussels (2 hours). The terminal is a 10-minute drive from the hotel.
Style & Character
Unless money is no object, this is a special occasion hotel - celebrations, proposals, anniversaries - and to be savoured and enjoyed. It's a grand hotel, undoubtedly, but with modern touches, such as the colourful plates on the restaurant walls, framed photographs of iconic stars in the bar, and bowls of simply arranged flowers.

Food & Drink
For all its classy style, the restaurant has a playfulness about it: lampshades patterned with lips, plates with faces, and bright geometric-patterned cushions. We love having a classic negroni in the bar - best at weekends when there might be live jazz.
Ristorante BoCConi: formal fine dining, modern Italian cuisine. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains from €25.
Bar A: buzzing, sumptuous decor, old-world charm. Open daily. Small plates from €18.
