The handsome brick building dates from the 1890s and was once a warehouse. Inside you'll find contemporary furnishings and luxurious bathrooms. It's down a laneway in the city centre - you can walk to Circular Quay, The Opera House and Darling Harbour but it lacks the harbour views that some holidaymakers crave when they stay in Sydney. The Museum of Sydney is a short walk away too, with high-tech displays that explain the city's history and temporary exhibitions.

The Loft Suite looks like it belongs in an interior design magazine. The bathroom has more marble than a mortuary. We love the Penthouse too, which has that warehouse-apartment feel. It's split over two floors, and has a spacious sitting room and huge bathroom.

You'll find plenty of variety without leaving the hotel. The main bar serves pub classics, at Mr Wong there's tasty Cantonese food, and at Sushi-e chefs prepare mouthwatering sashimi in front of you.
